SCOTLAND PACKING LIST 2022

ORGANIZATION

TOOL CARRYING IDEAS

You can carry your multitool in your BB or in your thru-axle  or even in your Headtube or bar end

ORGANIZE HANDLEBAR

The BarYak helps hold gear out front and adds more areas to mount things.

Also Aero-Bars are nice to change up hand positions

POWERING ELECTRONICS

Dynamo Hubs are great for charging on the go

Portable battery cells work well

BIKE SET-UP

My bike set up for the Colorado Trail, Lake Trail and Italy

SEAT

Finding a comfortable seat is a must! I rode 6 different seats and settled on the WTB Koda Team 142

GEARING

Gear down. For my 1x11 set up, I did 26t Wolftooth ellipticall up front and an 11-46 cassette

TIRES

A wide tire is nice. Don't be afraid to even swap the front and rear on a long tour. The rear will wear quicker.

I did a 27.5x2.6 Maxxis High Roller and Minion

GRIPS

An Ergon grip on a flat bar is nice to spread out the pressure on your hands (I used the GP series).

BIKE BAGS

I used Ortlieb handlebar and seat bags. These are durable and waterproof, but I would like to try some other options on the market
I made my frame bag with roll top and custom feedbags.
I used a cheap top tube bag with a clear cover to see maps or my phone

GEAR REVIEWS

SHOWERS PASS WATERPROOF GLOVES AND SOCKS

We had a chance to try out these gloves and socks in the rain and snow over multiple days in the Italian Dolomites. The gloves and socks are similar to a wetsuit but more waterproof. I would say my hands and feet stayed dry for many hours of being exposed to water. They did then become a little saturated and my body heat warmed the water and kept me warm. I put them in my sleeping bag at night to dry them out and that worked. They also worked well to keep my hands mostly warm when just exposed to cold and not water.
